John Hollins, blogger, lover of Platform Tennis and sometimes winner!
I’ve been fascinated with the idea of platform tennis since the first time I heard of it. To be honest, when I was first told about the size of the court and that you play it off the side screens, I thought the person who mentioned it to me was joking. But the more I though about it, the more I thought “that actually sounds like good fun”.
But then my sister started telling me about it, and I became more intrigued. My sister is a little younger than me but unbelievably competitive, and a real tennis fan and amateur player, so I thought maybe there is more to this sport than I had at first thought.
With my interest piqued, she asked if I fancied coming along with her to the local club and give it a try. I had never played with a paddle previously but had played soft tennis, traditional tennis and squash quite a lot, so felt I would be able to get the hang of it quite quickly. And maybe even show my little sis a thing or two.
Obviously she creamed me 🙂 But from that point I was hooked and have never looked back.
Since then and after a lot of practice, watching videos and other players, I like to think that I have improved. Or at least I give my sister a run for her money now! And that is where Platform-Tennis.com grew from, both a desire to have fun playing this great and addictive game, and also to get good enough to play competitively, at least at a club level.
I really do hope that this passion and desire comes through in my articles and reviews, and that you enjoy your time here amongst friends.
